Croatia’s Digital Nomad Residence (temporary stay) lets non‑EU/EEA/Swiss remote professionals live in Croatia while working for employers or clients based abroad. It’s granted for up to 12 months, is not extendable, and you may reapply after a six‑month gap outside Croatia. Since 2023, Croatia is in the Schengen Area and uses the euro, making travel and daily life simpler.

Eligibility:

- Remote work for a foreign employer/your own company abroad or as a freelancer serving non‑Croatian clients.

- Sufficient funds: at least 2.5× Croatia’s average net salary per month (approx €2,600–€3,000; higher with dependants).

- Valid passport, private health insurance, clean criminal record, and proof of accommodation.

Documents typically include an employer letter authorizing remote work or client contracts, recent bank statements/payslips, police certificate (apostilled/legalized), proof of address, and a completed application form.

Application process: apply online or at a Croatian embassy/consulate, or in Croatia at the local MUP police station if visa‑exempt. Processing commonly takes 2–6 weeks once your file is complete. On approval, provide biometrics and collect your residence card; expect standard administrative and card issuance fees.

Notes: You cannot work for Croatian employers while on this permit. Family members (spouse/partner and minor children) can join if you meet higher income thresholds. Under current rules, qualifying digital‑nomad income is generally exempt from Croatian personal income tax—seek personalized advice. Requirements may change; verify with MUP.
